WELCOMING THE YEAR OF THE HORSE WITH BAK KWA

It takes about two days to prepare these yummy "bak kwa".
After trying my hand in making my own bak kwa for the past few years,
I am quite pleased with this year's results.
For those of you who may be interested in making them,
I have the recipe in my foodblog:

BRAND NEW YEAR

Here's wishing you a very Happy and Adventurous New Year!
We are almost reaching the end of  January! Wow, time really flies!
Looking back to 2013, we may have many moments of learning, new appointments, good news, bad news, new inspirations , no inspirations....ha ha......the list goes on.
Anyway, we are now into a Brand New Year and we can surely move forward with fresh ideas and inspirations to share with those around us.
I have often asked myself this question: What is one thing in life that truly puts a smile on my face?
CRAFTS.
Looking at others' creativity and creation often brings a smile on my face and gladdens my heart. It reminds me of our Creator who has made all things beautiful. If  we can pause for a moment to admire the skies, the trees, the flowers and grandeur of His magnificent creation, it will truly gladden our hearts and bring on inspirations beyond imagination.

"The heavens declare the glory of God;
the skies proclaim the work of his hands."

NIV Psalm 19:1

Here are some bird crochet motifs I did for Christmas. May we bring all our dreams and inspirations to fruition this year, just like these little birds reminding us to "Take Flight" with that first flap of its wings.

CROSS STITCH - COTTAGE

cross stitch

This large piece of cross stitch has been sitting in a box over a couple of years.
I have not decided what to do with it but recently, I thought of having it mounted on a nice curtain rod.
When that happens, I can display my "masterpiece" in the  room and enjoy the hard work of my hands.
It shall serve as reminder of  the intentions of my heart -
As for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.

YU SHENG - CHINESE NEW YEAR RAW FISH SALAD

Yu sheng

"Yu Sheng" has always been a popular dish during the Lunar New Year celebrations.
These days, we can purchase the "Yu Sheng" ingredients (minus the fresh ingredients) in a nice pack from the oriental shops.
This year, I have done two rounds of "Lo Hei" (Prosperity Toss).
The first one was with the commercial packet of ingredients.
The second round was prepared from scratch.
Here's my recipe if you are keen to have some homemade goodness:

You can find the recipe in my foodblog:

EASY TO CROCHET - COLLAR NECKLACE

If you are like me, I would think you prefer clothing without a collar.
Since spring is here and summer will soon be approaching, who needs collars anyway!
Looking through the internet, collar necklaces are getting popular.
Since I have been learning to crochet, I have decided to crochet a collar necklace (some people call it Peter Pan collar) –
it goes so well with a T-shirt or any piece of clothing that has no collar.
Here it is!! My very own crochet collar necklace!!

The perfect ending to a good meal would be a good dessert.
Here is one dessert that I have always enjoyed making because it's simple to prepare and yet appealing to the eyes - but most of all, it makes everyone smile with satisfaction as we complete the meal with this sweet dessert called "AGAR AGAR".

WINTER KITCHEN ADVENTURES - ROTI JALA

I have always been wanting to try my hand in making "Roti Jala".
It is a lacey version of crepes that can be eaten with asian curries.
This is the recipe I found on the internet (http://rasamalaysia.com/roti-jala-recipe-and-reintroducing-a1/2/)
Here are some photos of my little kitchen adventure with roti jala.

RECYCLED SOCK WRAP - FOR A BOTTLE PLANTER

This plant was given to me by my daughter. She has recycled her old sock as a wrap to the glass bottle that holds the plant. Such a clever idea!!

The leaves of the plant are called laksa leaves, or Vietnamese coriander. I did a google search and found the botanical names, one of which is called Persicaria odorata. We use the leaves as a garnish to a South East Asian dish called “Laksa”. The leaves add a special flavour to the Laksa.
